Today, at 5 am AST, The National Hurricane Center issued a public advisory on Tropical Storm Lee. The center stated that Lee is increasing in power and is forecasted to quickly become a treacherous hurricane by the weekend, potentially impacting the Leeward Islands.
“At 500 AM AST (0900 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Lee was located near latitude 13.7 North, longitude 44.6 West. Lee is moving toward the west-northwest near 16 mph (26 km/h), and this motion is expected to continue for the next few days with a slight reduction in forward speed,” the center reported. Also, wind speeds have risen to almost 65 mph (100 km/h). Although the storm is projected to stay northeast of the Bahamas, we still advise the public to be prepared if these predictions change. For example, keep a good supply of food items/water, life vests on hand, and most importantly, have an evacuation plan. Also, remember that our Hurricane Season ends on November 30, 2023; thus, you must stay ready for anything.
