Alert #17 | Hurricane Melissa — 6 PM EDT, Tue Oct 28: Category 4 Hurricane Melissa is moving away from Jamaica and heading toward the Southeast & Central Bahamas.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Central & Southeast Bahamas, and a Tropical Storm Warning for the Turks & Caicos Islands.

Strong winds, heavy rain, flooding & storm surge (up to 8 ft) expected Wednesday–Thursday, especially for Ragged Island, Long Island, Acklins, Crooked Island, Rum Cay, San Salvador & Exuma.

Residents should complete all preparations now.

A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Central & Southeast Bahamas and the Turks & Caicos Islands.
Residents should finish all preparations now as tropical storm and hurricane conditions are expected early Wednesday through Thursday.

Alert #13 | Hurricane Melissa — 6 AM EDT, Tue Oct 28: Hurricane Melissa remains an extremely dangerous Category 5 Storm bringing catastrophic winds, flooding & storm surge to the Southeast and Central Bahamas Wed–Thurs.

LOCATION: Currently located 115 miles west-southwest of Kingston, Jamaica, moving north-northeast at 5 mph.

TIME OF IMPACT: Expected to impact the Central and Southeast Bahamas early Wednesday. Hurricane warnings are in effect for these regions.

IMPACTS:

    • Hurricane-force winds

    • 5–10 inches of rainfall, causing potential flooding

    • Storm surge of 4–6 feet, dangerous flooding in low-lying areas

WHAT TO DO: Residents should complete all preparations, follow evacuation orders where issued, and monitor official updates from DRM Authority and The MET Department.

Salvador, Cat Island, Acklins, Crooked Island, Long Cay, Mayaguana, and Inagua)

Tropical Storm Warning + Hurricane Watch: Turks & Caicos

Location: 135 mi SW of Kingston, Jamaica
Winds: 175 mph
Moving NNW at 2 mph, turning NE today toward the Bahamas

Impacts:

Strong winds, flooding rain (5–10″) & 4–6 ft storm surge Tues–Wed

Conditions worsening from Tues night (SE Bahamas) to Thurs (Central Bahamas)
